I don’t know how you found the way to here, but while you’re here, welcome =)
You landet on the server ignaz.org which is a VM hosted at tilaa.com since… quite some time. I do not remember. And before this machine migrated into the cloud, it was an physical server in an basement. This server is up and running since 2010, administrated by me. Hence, you guessed it, i am an GNU/Linux Systemadministrator who once did some application development in the past and maybe will do in the future, when there is time.
When i am not taking care of this Server or my work, a.k.a. in my free time, i am doing one of the following things:
Linux
Who would have guessed. I am using Linux since 2003 when i got the SuSE Linux 9.0 Special Edition (the only thing special about it was, that it was worse than the normal edition). I used it in daulboot with Windows but migrated completely to Linux in 2005 with the release of SUSE Linux 10.0
In 2007 i discovered Archlinux and Gentoo which i use since then. I did use Gentoo both at Work and at Home most of the time, but switched to Archlinux on my personal units (including the Ignaz Server). I did use Notebooks most of the time but gave up on them completely and are using a classical desktop at home and a tiny portable pc that i run from a tiny mobile battery with an portable 15“ screen for on the go.
My first desktop was an AMD Phenom II X6 1100T and i kept using AMD since then. Currently my Desktop uses an Ryzen 7 5700G and my portable pc the notebook version of the same APU.
Initially an KDE user, i am well experienced in both KDE and GNOME and often used them side-by-side. When GNOME introduced stable Wayland support, i switched to GNOME and stayed there for quite some time as Wayland solved a lot of issues i had with Xorg. Since the release of Plasma 6, which introduced full Wayland support, i am back at KDE.
Photography
I started photography around 14 when my grandfather gifted me an Praktica IV, an very old analog SLR which had no features, it did not use any electricity. It came with a small ZEISS lense, you put in film and thats basically it.
My first DSLR was an Sony a580, followed by two SLT from Sony, the a77 and the a99 before i switched to SIGMA. I preferred the simpler, more straightforward, get the job done lineup by SIGMA and so i sold my a99 with all lenses and got an SD1 Merrill. It got upgraded to an sd Quattro and i am now using the fp since quite some time. I tested the Sony a7R IV with some of those new G-Master lenses when it was new, initially to replace the fp but, in the end, sold the a7R IV with all lenses and kept the fp.
I develop my images using RawTherapee and currently i do not have an platform to share im images, sadly. They are all on an large HDD and i occasinoally upload some of them to Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/vamp898/ where you can watch them in horrible image quality. I am thinking about an solution to this in the future :P
Listening to music
I always loved listening to music and really got into it around 2007/2008 and roughly 10 years later, went all in and bacame an audiophile in the search for the highest possible sound quality.
Sadly the audiophile community has a lot of people with strong oppinion about their personal taste and also a lot of people who just straight out lie to you, it can be a dangerous hobby in which you burn quite a lot of money.
But i ended my audiophile journey with an Westone MACH 80 as IEM and an Sennheiser HD 490 Pro as Headphone. I listen to music with the app Odyssey on my Smartphone or the app cmus on my desktop. I also like to measure equipment, especially the one i own.
If its not broken, i scrobble what i listen to at last.fm https://www.last.fm/user/Vamp898
Making music
I started as a guitarrist but other instruments, including my own voice, joined the party. With my cousin, the band Ignaz was born in 2006. The band is sleeping right now with concrete plans of coming back in 2025. Preperations are ongoing, but its an rather time and money consuming hobby. So don’t expect an album before 2026.
Play TRPG
Forever GM here. Started with D&D (as probably most people), with 5e to be specific but i am using Sword World 2.5 almost exclusively right now. I developed an TRPG System for kinetic storytelling (KTRPG) which is still in development as everytime i wanted to use it, i ended up using SW2.5 in the end.
Playing Games
Mostly RPG, no surprise here. JRPG mostly. I played Final Fantasy 1~12 and 13. My favourites probably are 10 and 13. I had no interested in 11 and 14 as i am not an MMORPG player and lost the interest in the franchise with 15. But i play a lot of other JRPG and Dungeon Crawler so its no loss on my side. There are too many good JRPG out there to be stuck with what Final Fantasy turned into.
Japan
I have interest in the country since 2004 when i started learning Japanese for the very first time (with an method that was doomed to never have any success at all). After an failed attempt to move to Japan in 2016 (The company i worked for switched their plans for the future which made the move impossible) i finally moved to the country in 2022. そうだから結局に日本語も出来ている。
